Shannon Abbott is a yoga instructor
and a massage therapy practitioner. She first began practicing yoga in 2004.
With a background in theology and clinical social work, Shannon has always been
interested in integrating mind, body, and spirit. However, it was not
until 2007 that she began to truly make the connection between yoga,
spirituality, and mental health. Due to her background, Shannon's primary
focus in yoga and massage is on stress reduction, emotional balance, and
spiritual renewal. Shannon says, "Yoga allows us to bring mental health
and spirituality out of the head and onto the mat, allowing it to move
throughout the body and spirit, opening us up for new possibilities of hope
and healing." Shannon has studied yoga with Marsha Pappas and Nikki Myers.
She received her Yoga Teacher Certification in July 2008 at CITYOGA School of
Yoga and Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher
(RYT-200) through the nationally known Yoga Alliance.
Massage is a natural partner of yoga in that it aids in eliminating toxins
and balancing the energy flow of the body. Shannon studied
massage therapy at Aquarian Age Alternatives in Indianapolis, Indiana, where
she graduated in August 2009. She is also a member of Associated Bodywork
and Massage Professionals. In her free time, Shannon enjoys spending time in
her garden and with her husband, daughter, and dog.
